Occupy Movement to challenge the Israel Lobby

‘Occupy AIPAC’ to take on lobby’s legions in ‘business attire’

by , Mondoweiss,  January 11, 2012

This spring, Move over AIPAC will mobilize as “Occupy AIPAC,” returning to Washington D.C., to protest the Israel lobby’s national conference. AIPAC is known for strong-arming Congress into giving $30 billion to Israel over the next decade. This year it is promising to crank-out “thousands” of “business attire” political soldiers to increase funding for Israel, despite a U.S. recession.

At $500 per ticket, conventioneers can participate in AIPAC’s National Policy Conference, March 4-6. Move over AIPAC is preparing to counter the Israel lobbyists’ appointments with Congress, during its gathering outside the Convention Center, March 2-6.

Move over AIPAC has re-branded itself as “Occupy AIPAC,” reflecting the growing connections activists are making between the 1 percent and the Israeli occupation. This connection moved from idea to practice when activists from the Palestine Solidarity Network organized a demonstration against one of AIPAC’s Northern California conferences. Similarly, activists in New York staged a “mic-check,” at a Birthright event, at which Occupy voices challenged the Israel lobby. Continue reading

On “Obama vs. Netanyahu” — What Does It Mean?

from the series, “All People’s Liberation”, by Collision Course Video:

The political establishments of the US and Israel — long time partners in settler-colonialist and ethnic cleansing projects against the Palestinian people in historic Palestine — had a series of exchanges from May 19-May 24, 2011, because the changing situation across the Arab world has prompted some differences in the US and Israeli agendas.

Breaking down these changing circumstances and agendas, and what they will mean for the Palestinian and other peoples of the Middle East, Dr. Hatem Bazian (UC Berkeley professor) and Jeffrey Blankfort (writer and radio host) had this conversation.

The video is by Collision Course Video Productions, for the series on “All People’s Liberation.”

US: Zionist Lobby’s New Orders For Obama

December 17, 2010

By Alan Hart, “Information Clearing House

— After his appointment as chairman of the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs, California’s representative Howard Berman told The Forward: “Even before I was a Democrat, I was a Zionist.” This is the man, one of the Zionist lobby’s most influential stooges in Congress, who introduced House Resolution 1734 which gives President Obama his new orders.

Israel’s instructions to Obama

Thoroughly disingenuous, the resolution, which was drafted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and in my view is an indication of panic on its part, was approved unanimously by the House of Representatives on 15 December. It

  • strongly and unequivocally opposes any attempt to seek recognition of a Palestinian state by the United Nations or other international forums;
  • calls upon the administration to continue its opposition to the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state;
  • calls upon the administration to affirm that the United States would deny any recognition, legitimacy, or support of any kind to any unilaterally declared ‘‘Palestinian state’’ and would urge other responsible nations to follow suit, and to make clear that any such unilateral declaration would constitute a grievous violation of the principles underlying the Oslo Accords and the Middle East peace process;
  • calls upon the administration to affirm that the United States will oppose any attempt to seek recognition of a Palestinian state by the United Nations or other international forums and will veto any resolution to that end by the United Nations Security Council (my emphasis added);
  • calls upon the president and the secretary of state to lead a high-level diplomatic effort to encourage the European Union and other responsible nations to strongly and unequivocally oppose the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state or any attempt to seek recognition of a Palestinian state by the United Nations or other international forums; and
  • supports the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the achievement of a true and lasting peace through direct negotiations between the parties. Continue reading

Oakland, California: At AIPAC (Israel Lobby) Gala, Seven Arrested for Calling for End to US Military Aid to Israel

6 activists and a journalist were arrested December 13 in Oakland, when they performed this dance at the Marriott Hotel, where the American Israel Public Affairs Committee was having a fundraiser.

On December 13, when the American Israel Public Affairs Committee  (AIPAC) held its annual dinner in Oakland, a group of activists performed a flashmob inside the Marriott hotel to the tune of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall,” addressing Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine. Six activists and one writer were arrested. Continue reading

Hillary Clinton Attempts to Rescue Zionism at Palestinians Expense

Rescuing Zionism at Palestinian Expense

by Ali Abunimah

Standing in front of a huge banner of an Israeli flag merging into the American Stars and Stripes last Friday, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave yet another set-piece speech laying out how US “engagement” would help bring peace in our time.

Speaking at the Brookings Institution’s Saban Center in Washington, DC with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak and key Israel lobby figures looking on — including Salam Fayyad, the puppet “prime minister” of the US- and Israeli-backed Palestinian Authority — Clinton asserted that “a Palestinian state achieved through negotiations is inevitable” (“Remarks at the Brookings Institution’s Saban Center for Middle East Policy Seventh Annual Forum,” 10 December 2010).

What Clinton laid out in diagnosis and prescriptions, however, ensures that a Palestinian state is anything but inevitable. It is vanishingly unlikely.

Clinton’s much-anticipated intervention followed the Obama administration’s latest capitulation to Israel on settlement construction in the West Bank. After almost two years of attempting to bribe Israel into “restraining” the expansion of its Jewish-only colonies on occupied, stolen land, and its violent Judaization of Jerusalem, the administration concluded that it could do nothing. Of course one thing the Obama administration never tried was real pressure using as leverage the billions in annual no-strings aid the fiscally-bankrupt United States provides to Israel.
